Remains of a Diplodocid (Sauropoda: Flagellicaudata) from the Otlaltepec Formation Middle Jurassic (Bathonian-Callovian) from Puebla, Mexico
Resumen
Fieldwork in the late 1980s in the Otlaltepec Formation Middle Jurassic (Bathonian-Callovian) of southern Puebla resulted in the
recovery of the first osteological record of a Flagellicaudata dinosaur from Mexico and the southern-most for North America. The mate-
rial is represented by metatarsal fragments of the right pes, showing autapomorphies in metatarsal II for Flagellicaudata. The available
material is incomplete and the sample remains small, but it suggests the possible presence of a new taxon. This specimen provides data
on the distribution and diversity of sauropod dinosaurs of southern North America during the Middle Jurassic.
